I think there's more horror stories of crazy neighbors in switzerland than anywhere else.
If you never called police on your neighbor you're not fully integrated!
I heard of crazy neighbors calling the police because the right rear tyre of the neighbor's car was 2mm in the white lane of the parking space.
Then they would argue for days trying to teach you how those 2mm of "bad parking" could hinder the GDP growth of the whole country for years to come.
Then, they would go all day at work talking to their colleagues about how reckless was that foreigner with his right rear tyre just barely touching the inside of the white line...

There's some crazy repressed people there, especially where the climate is bad.

This IS the main reason I decided to join "Zug" (Of course, there are other less important reasons too)

On my Social Media status of my Swiss (WhatsApp) phone, I post all my daily "warfare" accomplishments so bankers, politicians, and public servants, including but not limited to Swiss and "neighboring" courts can freely access them.

So, half of of the 4557 pay less than CHF 180K per year in taxes, and the other half more.

Assuming @uplana pays the average, he's then making approximately CHF180K/0.08 which is CHF 2.25M. It's easily doable.

If he is only paying wealth taxes and doesn't have an income... then 8% is TOO high...

I'll admit...I could have gotten a better deal if I used "providers/lawyers" but I am distrustful of "providers" due to their intrusive questions, so I did it by myself a long time ago and I'm satisfied with my deal. I do see how effective the Swiss are in using the funds for what really matters in my life.

If we are talking about lump sum taxation and a person who earns 2M/y there is no better option than Monaco. Just park 1M there, rent a studio for 5K monthly and pay nothing in tax. Even Italy with 100K lump sum is cheaper.

But for me, Italy was not available back then and nowadays I'm not too much of a fan of Italy due to their immigration policies.
Zug is extremely quiet and people are so nice. There is hardly any crime and I can go walking at midnight without any fear of having to stand trial for self-defense.

Also, I needed a place NOT considered "high risk" for business by China (e.g. sending money to Chinese suppliers), and believe it or not, Monaco is. I don't know why, but Monaco is on the list of high-risk countries at the banks in China. I tried to ask, but my inquiry was met with more inquiries

So, a company in Zug was the right choice at the time. Today, in my particular case, Zug is still optimal. I don't even mention to the Chinese (or people I know) about Monaco. God forbid! I'd have so many people trying to come and visit me.

I already learned my lesson when I lived on Fisher Island in Miami! So many "distant" relatives and "friends" would show up at the dock unannounced. It was just insane. I hated it. Of course, nowadays, I don't hear from any of those leeches anymore

True, although it should be noted that in CH rape is defined like this:

Aggravated assaults are probably domestic violence and this is a BIG thing in CH! Don't ask me why as I don't know, but husbands/boyfriends DO beat their wives/girlfriends significantly more in CH...for whatever reason...at least this has been my impression. China has these domestic violence issues too and are usually instigated by the mother of the husband. Also, the amount of domestic violence in same-sex marriages has increased exponentially in CH.

Anyway, NONE of those things affect me in the least.
I feel bad for the victims, but I'm no Batman.

Swiss is my home in Europe.

Up until perhaps Covid i would agree, since Covid, Swiss has ceded a lot of control (direction) in addition, is also opening up on-par with the EU as a surveillance (financial), lastly because the Swiss People voted against bail outs in 2018, which was ignored in 2023, the Swiss people are on the tune for systematically important bank failures (in Swiss) which is predominantly non Swiss money.

So taxes are rising, in addition the Swiss CHF isn't backed by Gold (like some people think) but tech stocks (NASDAQ) the Government was smart by not debasing their currency in-line with the rest by buying US T-Bills predominantly (or equiv) but putting Tech stocks on their Central Bank balance sheet.

But Swiss is in a difficult position, Poland, France will become dominant players on the continent, Germany is finished, it remains to see where Swiss fits in, in this, Swiss success was being a home for wealth in Europe... that will shrink.

The truth about Switzerland? I have had a summer Lakeside place there for over 30 years. If you have the assets (at least $2 million or an income of $200,000 a year, you can live like a middle-class Swiss person. The advantage is that everything is on time, reliable & always works-Like What? Phones, elevators, trains, planes, wi-fi, and vending machines. It is very safe. Food is exceptionally clean & healthy. Medical/dental care is expensive but the best in the world. The Govt stays out of your hair. Politics is a non-issue, Nobody even cares or knows the name of the president. There are no oppressed minorities although "guest workers" who get a permit to stay for only a few years can save money to take back home, they are not going to live as well as even poor Swiss. Privacy is respected. Prostitution and gambling is legal- just like in Las Vegas. And there is a criminal underworld running a lot of that sort of thing.
Disadvantages?Almost Everything is twice the price vs. across the borders in Italy, France, and Austria. Sugar, Electronics, Not. If you don't respect local customs & laws you can get into trouble with huge fines. How? For stuff like being too noisy & disturbing your neighbors, Being Drunk & disorderly- can get you prison time and deportation, speeding, going through red lights, littering, and even making illegal U-turns, I learned to be very low profile, and law observant the hard way when I jaywalked across an empty street.
Bank secrecy is no more . I don't see how the banks survive. Very high charges? I deposited CHF20,000 and 4 years later, I got back CHF 16,000 after charges and negative interest. They certainly have cut back on staff, and have downsized. Getting away from dependence on Swiss banks is one reason I got into Bitcoin & ETH.

These issues were true but are dismantled in real time since 2020 and are just in line with the agenda. The administration wants to dissolve Switzerland into ursulandia, the socialist european superstate of woke and brokeness.
The gov def does not stay out of your hair any longer plus the country is no longer neutral. Very very bad policy mistakes have been made to end the success model it once was.

I'm amused that you're all so curious about how much I earn - however, I won't boast about it here. Monaco is fine if you speak French and are otherwise a braggart - If you want to find a good place for yourself where you feel comfortable, then you should look at more than just taxes.

I wanted the lowest possible tax rate but still be able to feel comfortable.

Switzerland is a fantastic mix between Germany and Denmark, the people are in between in CH, and the tax is low enough that I feel like an independent person and not a slave to a socialist state.

You others are welcome to sit in Thailand and enjoy yourselves with ladyboys or in Monaco with drug-addicted prostitutes or in the Bahamas with dark girls with Ebola - I prefer Switzerland for the foreseeable future.
