usually you sound very sensible... but this? so you believe that giving people things "for free" is somehow good?

In capitalist countries there is no free lunch, governments steal money from people through taxes and by inflating the money supply, and distribute it to themselves and their cronies or donors (military complex, pharma, etc.), while giving some scraps to the people who have the least disposable wealth after taxes, and - as sad as it sounds - it works to get re-elected, as most people are stupid and brainwashed by the government media. Actually, they don't do anything for the people, they just try to make as much money as they can in the 4 years, and everyone can see that their total wealth magically rises >10 fold in that short time......

The thing is, that Gaddafi wasn't stealing money from the people, or allowing ursery by banks to impoverish the population. He was doing the opposite, sharing the wealth of the resources of the country with every citizen, keeping living costs (food, energy, housing) affordable for everyone, while trying to liberate the whole of Africa from enslavement by the USD through the Gold-Dinar (sadly he did it alone, before the BRICS, otherwise he might have survived); not only this, but he created the biggest aqueduct in the world to supply every part of the desert with water.

I don't think it's giving people things for free, it's just distributing what belongs to them. The oil in the ground is not owned by the government, it belongs to the people. The government is supposed to work for the people, like a CEO, handle stuff that people don't want to do themselves, and distribute any wealth back to them. Not more.

Most governments are the opposite, and seem to hate the people that elect them, How else could one explain CBDCs, WEF, endless wars, taxation, and uncontrolled immigration? Sadly, I know the reason for that. But that's another story.

Yes. But we also need to be fair that at least his children were no real Robin Hoods, but definitely just living a lavish lifestyle, while not even treating the people in the immediate surrounding well. Hannibal's name was program and he did physically mistreat his domestic helpers. In short, over the generations values detoriated and the families offspring were just as bad as anybody else in politics. If you do this over the decades, your support from the people will obviously vanish at some point.

Meanwhile Israel is occupying more Syrian territory, because why not?

We'll see what's left of present-day Syria in a few years. Israel takes land in the south to increase their buffer zone. No one is going to do anything about that (for a long time). Kurdish SDF takes part of the north, with US' blessing (for now). Various factions fight over the central parts and fight with the Kurds for the northern parts if/when US backing dries up. Turkey will want to see some ROI on their backing of the Syrian opposition. Toppling Assad was a huge pay off but they'll want more. Return of millions of refugees off of Turkish lands.

No.

So who was he stealing from?
ursery by banks to impoverish the population.
*usury. Charging interest is not impoverishing the population or usury by default. It should be the choice of the corporate entity whether it wants to charge interest and the amount of interest it wants to. The point of a free market is that there is competition and that ineffective or unsuitable for the market services will be outcompeted by better-targeted services.
He was doing the opposite, sharing the wealth of the resources of the country with every citizen,
And why should the citizen get them in exchange for nothing?

:)
The government is supposed to work for the people, like a CEO, handle stuff that people don't want to do themselves, and distribute any wealth back to them will never act in anybody else's best interest because it has nothing to gain by doing so, and should be replaced by the markets.
FIFY.

That's what Asad thought too. Those rebels have been stuck in the north for a decade already.
Well, if you see timelapse for whole war it's technically incorrect suggestion as a massive territory of Syria was under control of different groups time to time.

Hovewer, the idea that Dondas was primary goal of putin after Crimea annexation it's a fact and he never achieved this land(which is only some tiny part of Ukraine, no mentioned Kyiv or another part of country).

Guys. I think we do not want to @John Spectre vs. Russia revival. I am already happy that @jafo is on holiday this time.

With all due respect, we do support the Ukraine and John as much as we can. Nobody in Europe is happy that a US-China conflict is being beaten out in other people's backyards. But this thread is about Syria as the title reads, can somebody please move the posts into another thread "Ukraine Speculations" or "How the US was acting selfish and made Putin angry, now innocent have to suffer"?

@Forester please move all these posts about Russia and Ukraine to https://www.offshorecorptalk.com/threads/what-is-going-on-in-ukraine.36563/
This thread is about Syria!
@Forester they opened a new thread after my wish but then continued the flame war here. Can you maybe also merge this one into @JohnnyDoe's thread:

120%. He loved his people, and he lived for them.

1. There was no electricity bill in Libya, electricity was free for all
2. There was no interest on loans, banks in Libya
3. Home considered a human right in Libya – Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a house until everyone in Libya had a home.
4. All newlyweds in Libya received $60,000 Dinar (US$ 50,000 )
5. Libya had no external debt and had reserves of $150 billion most of which were frozen globally (STOLEN!)
6. In Libya during Gaddafi reign, if a Libyan bought a car, the government subsidized 50% of the price.
7. The price of petrol was $0,14 per litre
8. A portion of Libyan oil sale was credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.
9. A mother who gave birth to a child received US $5,000
10. 40 loaves of bread in Libya cost $ 0.15 during Gaddafi’s reign.

You wanna know how's life in Lybia now? That's Syria's future......if they are lucky.

Sounds heavily socialist to me! But whatever floats your boat.
