Having to pay taxes on purchases because my company was not VAT registered.

Independently of OP's situation, my point was to point out that a non VAT registered business might have to pay VAT to the local tax office when buying services from abroad.

I don’t understand anything you’re saying!

If I receive an invoice with VAT and I pay the total amount, including VAT, to the seller, then I shouldn’t have to pay both to him and to the tax authorities, that would mean paying twice! What are you going on about here?

Alternatively, YES, if I receive an invoice without VAT from a company, then I have to pay the VAT to the tax authorities if it is required.

These discussions sometimes get a bit heavy when things could be explained so simply.

Not really, communication can be difficult. You chose to attack me rather than resolve the issue, which has made this thread useless for OP and is why he is requesting it to be closed.

I am closing this thread. The answers provided are sufficient, and it seems that OP has already found his answer despite the mess that has been created here.

I am not issuing any warning points this time, but going forward, if users attack others, contribute nothing but confusion, or go off topic, warning points will be given.
