This all LGBTQ+ reason is just whataboutism ;)
Btw gay marriage in Cuba is legal since 2022 while in some EU countries is still forbidden.
LGBTQ+ legality or illegality does not make country business friendly. What we all talk about here.
What I want in life is to do business and invent/manufacture things and spend the fruits of my labor as I see fit without "invented rules" from gang members...no matter what label they use as a disguise..
I don't want to be sidetracked with religion, UFO stories, accountants, lawyers, politics, LGBTQ****, my SO's lazy/unproductive sibling needing money to get married to "be happy", her parents trying to siphon a better life from me etc etc.

Is PEACE and being LEFT ALONE too much to ask in a so-called "free and democratic civilized world"?

This is whataboutism. You have many countries who do not recognize gay relationship:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_by_country_or_territory
Almost all Africa, muslim countries, Russia, Belarus here you go. Many options to do good business

Basically Western people aka Liberals recognize gay marriage.

If you don’t have to deal with LGBTQ+-*% nonsense you already are in a decent place.
In the US, Florida mayor DeSantis, who is running for president, wants to destroy leftism (and lgbtq+) and make America a better place.

Let me address this for you:
Whataboustism does NOT exist! It's just disguised hypocrisy on steroids!
If you understand, great. If you don't, great too! I really don't care! Life's too short!

You have many countries who do not recognize gay relationship:
Seriously? I listed at least EIGHT (8) things I don't want to deal with and the ONLY thing you focus on is gay relationshp?
Is this a psychological projection?

"Psychological projection is a defense mechanism people subconsciously employ in order to cope with difficult feelings or emotions. Psychological projection involves projecting undesirable feelings or emotions onto someone else, rather than admitting to or dealing with the unwanted feelings."

Dear Jafo, I have a piece of Indian wisdom for you regarding judicial system: same same, but different.
Wiki: "The figures for 2017–2018 in England and Wales show at Crown Court the conviction rate was 80.0% and at Magistrates Court the conviction rate was 84.8%.[16] In Northern Ireland figures show at Crown Court the conviction rate for 2017-2018 was 87.2% and at Magistrates Court it was 79.0%.
In China, the justice system has a conviction rate of 99.9% in 2014.[2] Out of 1.2 million tried, only 1,039 were found not guilty - an acquittal rate of around 0.08%. [3] Several local protectorates in China have set a "zero acquittal policy," resulting in a negative performance evaluation for trials that end in acquittal. As a result, Chinese prosecutors tend to withdraw indictments at the pre-trial stage rather than risk acquittal."

I should also mention, that most cops in dictatorship countries like Belarus know only one way of investigating a crime, namely by torturing a suspect until he is ready to sign a confession (that's how Stalin's paranoia resulted in execution of a few million "spies" and "enemies of the people" in 1937).

I have battlefield-boots-on-the-ground wisdom for you:
Read and understand How to Lie with Statistics. Published in 1954

I'd be surprised if you haven't read it since you love to throw "statistics" around rof/%

in the US, the cops shoot you before you even see the prosecutor.
100%! The missing person numbers in the USA were mind-boggling to me in the beginning (i.e. the early 80s)...then after a few years of attending college and post-grad, I'm actually surprised it's so low rof/%

“Food, Ivan Arnoldovich, is a subtle thing. One must know how to eat, yet just think – most people don’t know how to eat at all. One must not only know what to eat, but when and how.’ (Philip Philipovich waved his fork meaningfully.) ‘And what to say while you’re eating. Yes, my dear sir. If you care about your digestion, my advice is – don’t talk about bolshevism or medicine at table. And, God forbid – never read Soviet newspapers before dinner.’ ‘M’mm . . . But there are no other newspapers.’ ‘In that case don’t read any at all. Do you know I once made thirty tests in my clinic. And what do you think? The patients who never read newspapers felt excellent. Those whom I specially made read Pravda all lost weight.”
― Mikhail Bulgakov, Heart of a Dog

No skin in the game, otherwise you would have been shot by US cops (a dead man can't read Russia Today).

Interesting topic. Liberal democracies have gone from "live and let live" to "live and tell you how to live". You have to bend to topics like LGBT, racism, fight-of-the-day, or any societal issue the nomenklatura feels it's time to agitate. Many people feel that this invasion of their privacy is totalitarian. You can also add on top of this the immigration, pensions and the resulting increasing burden on social welfare, and taxes.

In dictatorships, the state is clearly here and, unlike in democracies, it doesn't try to make you think it's your friend. You don't have so many economic freedoms (even if countries like the UAE, HK or Singapore manage to let you do whatever you want), but you have personal safety, and a lot of societal freedoms if you keep it for yourself.

Overall, it's a matter of personal taste. The justice system is very different from countries to countries; in the "democracy" I was born in, you need to wait between 2 and 3 years to have a trial, and police won't investigate most of the cases, due to laziness and lack of prosecutions by the courts when they catch criminals. Generous social welfare often means rampant corruption, too. Just look at the Norwegian child protection kidnapping children for ideology and profit, for instance.

Ideally, like everyone here I'd enjoy a state with a stable population, low taxes, social welfare limited to the useful minimum, freedom of speech, strong privacy and efficient courts. Not sure Belarus fits the bill, even if it can be quite chill in some cases. There is also a reason why Switzerland is one of the most sought after residency.

In a nutshell, you have to bend to any societal issue the nomenklatura feels it's time to agitate EVERYWHERE, otherwise you get screwed. In a dictatorship you get screwed at least twice as much (For example a few years ago Russia decided that Jehovah's witnesses are dangerous criminals and jailed them all for their religion). In UAE there are people who got jailed for a year just for kissing girlfriends in public.
Tender feelings towards dictatorships in nothing new, French intellectuals loved Stalin because they read Pravda articles about evils of capitalism and happy and productive life with no unemployment of an average Joe in Russia and never doubted a single word they read. Nowadays there are thousands of Russia Today bots and admirers everywhere, including this forum, trying to convince credible people how safe and pleasant life is when there is a great and wise dictator that cares about personal safety of every subject in his country by jailing and beating the nastiest form of western evil, namely gays.

This HEDGED in & lets-label-everything thinking with an ISM to sound "intellectual" is the most challenging indoctrination to UNLEARN! No ISM is anyone's solution! I don't care if it's capitalism, socialism, communism, or whatever everyone else with limited brain power can conjure up!

I've NEVER voted for anyone in my life. I never joined any "military", I don't join a congregation.

I don't know about others, but I'm NO fan of ANY man! I'm a fan of me! I work on me and for me!

Do you know what is a solution? Everybody leaves everybody alone and goes to mind their own business to support themselves and that includes the conmen in politics, tax departments, and other gang members in the military. They can start a State-Owned Entity and provide a valuable voluntary service and earn their own money without entitlement.

PS. But it's nice to watch a strong man like Putin kick a*s though. NGL rof/%

Putin's aim was a demilitarized Ukraine. The end result is closer to a demilitarized Russia completely surrounded by NATO.
By the way, in China they created a special law for people with solutions - "Picking quarrels and provoking trouble" - can jail anyone. Other dictatorships have similar laws.

I think doors are open. You can live and enjoy life in Belarus :) Again another russian troll
Between North Korea, Belarus and Cuba I would probably choose Cuba. At least nice weather and no war any time soon :)
Do not pay attention to the rashists who are still present here. I don’t understand how much you need to be a ******** and scum to defend such backward, arrogant, boorish countries like russia in our time. What their governments do under the consent of the people is much worse than what the Germans did under the rule of Hitler. I hope that this dictatorial "country" embittered at the whole civilized world will simply disintegrate. Or it will be swallowed by China soon.
