A new name and surname with obtaining Turkish citizenship through investment

care to give more details about that or a link with detailed info about it please?
Sorry it is a good friend of mine who just did this and told me about it. I saw the passport because I told him I could not believe what he said. Anyway, it's possible and don't require special connections in Turkey.

I did some fast research and ideed it is possible for just $400k investment in turkish real estate and you get to choose your name! That indeed very curious option, I guess we should start a new thread for it though :)

I was todays years old when I found out that (thanks to this forum and short research)
So the whole process takes 3-6 months, you buy property in Turkey for at least $400k ( or multiple properties) and apply for citizenship. In the process you get to choose your name!
If you are thinking what I'm thinking please let me know if you see any weak spots.

(general outlay of the process)

(here they confirm (what i heard in this forum) that you get to choose your own name)

thoughts?

Yeah there have been a few threads about it lately, it's something I really looking further into atm.

it's an appealing option
weak spots I can see:
* sooner or later it will be an EU passport which is unwanted for some
* it's a general problem (but in countries like Turkey especially) you never know what obligations may be connected with that citizenship in future - e.g. military service
* Turkey (and its citizens) can get sanctioned easily in future for many reasons by many important countries
* their currency is collapsing faster then others and it will cause social and political instability and threaten your investment

Does it say on the passport where you were born? In that case at least that country can still cross match you with date of birth probably?

Do you need to provide proof of source of funds for the purchase of the property?

Yes, this is really interesting. Almost “too good to be true” ;)

Of course, the devil can be hidden behind details; e.g. I presume that Turkish goverment keeps your original name in the records and it is linked to your new name forever – consequences are clear...

It is Türkiye. This program has been there for years. And it more recently got less attractive 3 years ago. But still, you can do it. Of course, they will know your old name (but who cares, you then can then still go and get naturalised elsewhere with our new passport) and of course, your kids will have to go to the Army in Türkiye etc. but I would say it is definitely a more honest program than the typical citizenship by investment programs where you need to "invest" in approved real estate (which barely keeps its value above 50%). Also, you can expect way less questions with a Türkiye passport as opposed to a Vanuatu one where the question will immediately revert to the "real one".

Would you mind to elaborate more on this?

True. As a funny comment, some time ago I met a (white) man who was really living in Vanuatu, he simply had moved there. He told me how he was accustomed to questions like “OK man; and what is your real citizenship and residence?” ;) ;) ;)
But maybe times are changing, I do not know :)

It works.
As an extra measure to Really start with a new name ive seen people would go and apply for CBI at one of the islands with their new name and Turkish citizenship .... Vola you are a new person
not really in this age of widespread biometrics and database sharing at airports etc unless you live in a massai village forever. Its gonna be very tough to keep your new person hidden from your other.

At least with a new passport and identity, you can obscure your presence from most institutions in life. It might be the case that if you do something foolish, the police and other authorities who ask for your Turkish passport will figure out the connection, but if you can stay out of their spotlight, then you have a good new identity.

Yes, it is the main problem. Hence the selling of passports in the end does come at a cost to the locals that are then bothered when travelling.
