Why is it that the price of gold has been shooting up so drastically over the last few days?

I was obviously talking about global mobility... which doesn't change much about your picture being a bit naive from the practical standpoint... regular French highway police patrol ask you how much cash you carry

How would you use bitcoin if there was no electricity in Europe?
an absolute mayhem would happen in Europe after two days of blackout in every thinkable aspect - BTC is the last thing affected by this

Haha, I’ve come across this question many times before... As an EU citizen, you can easily move around with 1 kilo of gold in Europe, provided you have it in small coins and not as a gold bar.
Aren't all these small coins available in Aliexpress?

they may ask but do you need them to give a honest answer!

Btw. I travel alot in Europe also with car, I have never been asked for anything only my passport a few times crossing the boarders here and there but else never. In fact, I had 50K euro in cash with me most often, no problems.

I don’t know where you live, but where I spend my time, I could easily have a kilo of gold on me or with me in coins, which I could use in case of a power outage, as also mentioned above.

You don’t really have to tell everyone what you are doing, especially the guys in uniform.
If you have much more than that, you could strategically deposit it.
In your garden, you mean.

Old question already answered thousands of times.

you're right, you don't have to tell anything and there is a little chance, on the other hand it applies to taxation as well - I could easily pay 20% of my taxes and nobody would find out with a high probability - yet some of us try to avoid breaking the law and giving the state any reasons to harass us

for this doomsday scenarios fake gold is just as good and "a bit" cheaper

If you have a mix of a little gold, whiskey, and BTC, I’m sure you’ll survive doomsday just fine.

If you check the websites of the most reputable shops selling gold bars or coins you can see they sell above the market price most often, and buy below. You need a long time investment strategi if you look into Gold.
