I wonder if you can recommend a provider of telephone numbers that allow me to receive SMS from banks and verify web portals.
I need a Canadian number.

You can try Fongo.com. Make sure it's the Canadian version, not the world version. Download the app. You will be able to receive local SMS and you can log on to the app and see the text messages. You will need a Cdn credit card to order the service however.

I also use skype - you can get a US number and a North America subscription plan. Even though it's a US number, I get SMS from my 2 Canadian banks, and various other establishments in Canada. There is a Cdn plan for landlines and mobile numbers but I get the NA plan with the US number bc a Cdn tel number isn't one of the available options but maybe you can try it.
