US widens Russia sanctions in banking crackdown

Do you think it will work ?

No chance. How can it...lol?

Russia is not South Sudan sadly. When you have stuff people want and are resourceful sanctions will not ever work. Ask Cuba, Iran, North Korea or Syria. US sanctions have not and will not achieve their goals. And countries like Iran have been under sanctions and had money frozen since 1979 .

As it stand Russia still remains the biggest economy in Europe by PPP.

P.S If people are offended by inconvenient facts then I apologize in advance. I will not hijack your thread but will create another one explaining what is going on with global payment system as its destined to split into two. Then U.S sanctions and secondary sanctions will be completely useless it seems.

Despite the wave of sanctions brought against Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the International Monetary Fund predicts that the country will record economic growth of 3.2% this year.

But analysts said the measures will eventually make it harder for Moscow to wage its war, and over time weaken Russia's economy.

Zero chance, from SWIFT cutoff to price cap, travel bans, shipping bans etc etc it has all failed. Same analysts thought Russian economy would be wiped out a year ago. If as a country your the most heavily sanctioned in the world and can still survive and flourish then perhaps more sanctions is not the way to go - just an idea .

There are major changes to the global system underway before end of decade. Things have failed so badly that US is convincing European allies to prepare to throw away the lives of their military personal to help Ukraine. So far France seems sold on the idea despite Macron being humiliated by US on AUKUS submarine deal etc. I am still unsure why EU states are doing what is in the interest of the US rather their their own states. Maybe they are sold on the idea that the world order with US on top and them below it must be maintained at all costs even if their own citizens must suffer .
