Well, aside from the fact the UK has now just not only become non-investable, it's also now non-visitable lol

IHT even 10yrs after you've left the s**t hole, fortunately i left nearly 2 decades ago, and have non-connectivity today with the country aside from siblings/parent/grandparent on advice of my legal i was advised not to visit the funerals also due to arguments later about 'connectivity' and my untimely demise and wealth taxes for my kids.

But it appears our family legacies / assets etc will be lost to the machine/time, anyway (onshore assets).

Not really sure what happens to the UK going forward, personally muttered Putin would be doing the place a favour by nuking it because the state its in and its kinda on the host(s) that have been drained of any capabilities or options to turn it around.

Thoughts?

Im not sure I follow correctly.
Are they going to introduce inheritance taxes even after 10y of non-residency or whats the exact plan?

UK is one of the most advanced tax farm, a place (London) built on incompetence and deception (as a unique alternative to the lack of competence), and they have yet successfully attracted so many subjects to come work and feed their system (I was once one of these). Of course, now they have also attracted a new kind, and much less obedient type of subject... I am happy to watch this from the side lines.

I remember 15 years ago seeing government ads at bus stops saying "You suspect your neighbor is evading taxes, call us on xxx". That was already pretty advanced gestapo style if you ask me. And since the slaves do not sanction their masters, the masters keep boiling step by step. Very sorry for you Wellington that it is coming to this.

Good, I did not enter UK but went to the next flight right away. The airport was full of screens displaying tax rises.

@JohnnyDoe why do you recommend not getting the UK passport? You think they will be taxing citizens in the near future? (How would this work in practice as you could technically be UK citizen and have UK citizen kids while only having ever lived in Pitcairn Island, BVI, Channel Islands, etc. which are all out of UK mainland taxes?)

They are already doing this in practice and they will increase their vexation in the future.

Citizenship-based taxation.
Anyway you need to live in the UK for some time in order to apply for citizenship, so they can steal your money in a number of ways, including an exit tax etc.

I've thought a lot about this over the years, i don't believe the UK could do international citizenship taxation like the US, as predominantly it's mainly the elderly (retired) that move abroad.

The youth likewise would just drop their citizenship very quickly due to the demand of new blood in most countries this will draw them in (think Australia, US, Canada etc -> even the EU is desperate for British youth hence trying everything to open that).

Ultimately i think they will keep pushing but at some point there will be a flash (revolution) and then a re-set.

I know most of the people i talk to see no choice, and it's a broad range of people from different wealth / education backgrounds.

Well, that's exactly what I am trying to say. You can actually acquire citizenship without living in the UK (in certain cases, which will become more and more common over the years with the mass-exodus).

Let's say your father had UK citizenship otherwise than by descendent but hated the taxes so much that he decided to leave once and for all. Then, you were born and you automatically have UK citizenship by descendent. Now, you can spend 3 years in any British Overseas Territory and then, you can register your UK citizens.

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1981/61 said:
A person born outside the United Kingdom [F29and the qualifying territories] shall be entitled, on an application for his registration as a British citizen made [F30while he is a minor], to be registered as such a citizen if the requirements specified in subsection (3) or, in the case of a person born stateless, the requirements specified in paragraphs (a) and (b) of that subsection, are fulfilled in the case of either that person’s father or his mother (“the parent in question”).

Hence my question, if you never lived in the UK and never paid taxes there. Do you see any disadvantage of having UK citizenship? Maybe @wellington's kids will once day have to decide whether to spend some time in the BVI, Sark, Pitcairn in order to register their own kids.

If memory serves its only a small number of islands a British citizen can freely move to.

I.e We have all these territories but they are self managed, i.e i was invited to Pitcairn 14 yrs ago as a resident potential, lived in other overseas territories (not sark) but a UK Citizen doesn't have the right to just move to them...

As for my kids, we took the approach of not informing the Gov, they can apply for their passport later and the Gov will be aware at that point individually if they want as births data used to have to be registered but they dropped it as they basically said passports do the same thing but applying for a passport isn't essential.

Being brutally honest, obtaining citizenship in places such as Singapore, etc or PR in HK is more benefiting to someone than a UK citizenship IMO.
Buying citizenship is also affordable for everything else.

Only makes sense to get UK Citizenship if you want to go over via boat to get state financial aid, everything else (inc weather) is subpar /s**t.

Yes, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Gibraltar. For the others, you do need permission. But you can live in the BVI and your kids can then register for UK citizenship without having set foot into the UK even once.

Strange, how come you did not move to Pitcairn? Have you been there, how was it?

Sounds like a good plan. But would you recommend your kids to live 3 years in Sark to pass on their citizenship?

Haha. Well, it is not that bad. And you get 180 days to stay in Hong Kong while all others only get 90 days. (Which is completely useless unless it is COVID-19.)
