Scores of private executive jets have begun to make use of extensive facilities at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in Saint Kitts, Airport Operations Officer, Osbert Wilkins has reported.

Jets, ranging from Learjet 25s to an Executive 737, are currently using the airport’s parking facilities, and are expected to remain until early January 2011.

Wilkins said their owners are either on St. Kitts, on Nevis, or neighbouring St. Maarten. “Fifteen jets are parked on the tarmac as we speak," he disclosed on December 28. "One of the jets is parked here while the owner took a helicopter to nearby St. Barth’s.”

The announcement comes as Saint Kitts and Nevis ramps up its efforts to facilitate VIP travellers to the Federation, through the conception of a new dedicated terminal as announced in August 2010.

Wilkins said that St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority’s aim is to provide a top-class service to passengers on executive jets when a world class Private Air Terminal Facility (FBO) at the Robert L.

Bradshaw International Airport is completed.

Construction of the first phase of the XCD20m (USD7.4m) project by Veling Limited in the southeast corner of the airport is to start during the first half of next year and will be completed in two phases over the next 10 years.

The architectural design of the FBO will reflect that of the Caribbean culture, while the interior will offer ultra-modern facilities and first-class services, the government said.

During the recent signing of the agreement between SCASPA and Veling, the Federation’s Prime Minister Denzil Douglas said the facility has become an important need as there has been a sustained and substantial increase in the use of the airport by Executives and celebrities using private aircraft services.

The airport continues to receive commercial flights operated by American Airlines, Delta Airlines, US Airways, British Airways and LIAT.
