so, i recently learned that all of the exchanges ive been using are now giving my transaction history to my local tax agency and im looking for a new exchange that is not proactively working against me.
i was considering okx, but their travel rule faq page really puts me off.
ive tried contacting them, but their support is useless, like every other support out there; the most ive been able to get out of them is:
Please be advised that regulated region is depend on your country of residence and which entity you are belong to. We advised you to create an account and complete the verification so that we are able to look at your identity and analysis whether your are subject to the travel rule.
i already told them my country and my residence on the email but apparently they cant answer if the travel rule affects me unless i kyc with them? whaaat?
has any eu user had any issues with okx travel rule?

besides being an awful idea security wise, i just dont want any deposit/withdraw blocked because an algo selects me for whatever reason and then i have to connect my wallet to their site or whatever other nonsense they require.

thing is the other exchanges i use also follow the travel rule and ive never been impacted even with transactions above $1000.

so to reiterate, have any of you been impacted by the travel rule on okx?

thanks.

Travel rule is a (relatively) new thing.
In some jurisdictions it has bee implemented, in some will be soon. No exchange (at least in dollar or euro area) can get buy without it. So everybody using any CEX will be impacted.
But it does not change that much for the user. It just means that in case there are certified VASPs on both ends of a transaction, they exchange customer info, like regular bank transfers.
In case of a self hosted wallet as counterparty, there is nobody to exchange that info with and nothing changes.
Implementation of the travel rule is actually not going very smoothly, mainly because there is no standard for the info exchange and the data protection is screwing it. ;) Basically one VASP has do do KYC on the VASP on the other end before they can seda data. ;)
So - if you just use the exchange for on or offboarding and go self hosted from there, the empact is minimal.

EU is looking into (seriously) banning use of self hosted wallets. ;) ;)
