Hi!

I set up an Irish limited company to manage my e-commerce operations across Europe.

I already have VAT numbers in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, but I’m struggling to obtain an Irish VAT number. The issue is that Irish authorities require a physical presence in Ireland, which I don’t have since I live in Asia, and my business is entirely remote.

This has become a problem because I can’t reclaim VAT on essential expenses like ads, software subscriptions, and other services without an Irish VAT number. Has anyone faced a similar situation or found a solution?

Why don't you get some sort of office established there for your business. Your agent must be able to help you or you find and agent that can handle all this for you.

The problem is that you need to use OSS. And with OSS, you only need a VAT number in the country you have a physical warehouse.

But you can state that you are not doing OSS and are doing taxable supplies to Ireland and thus need a VAT ID. You should then normally be able to get a VAT ID. If you want to be on the safe side, you can state that you are using a third party warehouse and ship physical products from Ireland and thus need the VAT ID as you are making taxable supplies in Ireland and elsewhere.
