What do you think? It is quite hard to get a long-term visa for NZ but besides that it could be an interesting option to cash out crypto gains in a high reputation jurisdiction?

What makes you think that cashing out crypto gains would count as foreign income?

Well, the only income that is not exempt is

- Foreign-sourced employment income.
- Foreign-sourced income relating to services.

So I would assume that you could put the crypto into a company (e.g. US LLC or UK LLP), sell it and pay yourself a dividend.

@FixieHartmann where is your current tax residency? I've heard of some Aussie residents trying this but caught out by draconian Australian tax residency rules.
