Lately I have been helping out a friend who is interested in individual consulting engagements.
In order to make his planning smoother, I jotted few points that he needs to consider.
I would highly appreciate to hear your views/critical comments on those points. If there is anything missing, please let me know. If there is any unwanted point, please tell me so.

Points to ponder:
Nature of work: Individual consulting engagements, sole or part of existing team
Location of client engagements: Clients site, or Remote or Both. Worldwide.
Sales Materials to prepare:
- List of skills
- Resume
- Details of work done so far
- Business card
- Virtual phone number (worldwide roaming if possible)
- IVR (to receive calls while I am asleep)
- Simple one page website
- Social media presence (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter)
Sales& Marketing (i.e. how to get work from current & new customers)
- where to contact new customers
- your sales pitch to them (i.e. Why would they give work to you and not someone else)
Your Charges
- hourly rate
- lumpsum, predetermined amount for a certain scope of work
Agreements (me - client)
- Non Disclosure Agreements
- Work Agreement
Facing competitors (before getting work):
- how to ensure your competitors do not steal your deal, when you are in middle of discussion/negotiation with client
- how to ensure your competitors do not tarnish your reputation before you reach out to prospects and customers
Receiving payments:
- Transfer wise (Personal), PayPal, etc.
- Bank transfer
- Cheques
- Crypto currency wallets
Tax Residency:
- Current residence
