Does anyone has a guide or a explanation on what it means to MASK a bitcoin transaction?

A how to guide would be great as well as information about if it really can make a bitcoin transaction anonymous or if it is just hot air spread around.

because it's the only way to stay anonymous if you pay someone with BTC for services or products not legal
