Yesterday I came across somebody who wanted to know whether gold is a better investment than shares. I am of the opinion both gold and shares are a must in any portfolio. But since gold is essentially something that keeps pace with inflation and does not really increase wealth, it does loose sheen for me. I'd prefer to invest some amounts in shares, and periodically skim the profits to invest in gold such that eventually I have enough for food, clothing, shelter, and if I might add for medicines as well. And since the number of years when there are economic crisis are far and few when compared to better times, I am inclined to tilt a bit more towards shares.
