I will soon have to go to jail and will be released again when I have paid 230,000 euros. All based on an oral complaint. Also since the Belgian man only had the invested funds for 3 weeks, how much of the funds did he use in 3 weeks to piss the investor off this badly?

Sometime European dude behavior are very rude and arrogant . They consider local somehow low to them. They fell they are superior. Disrespecting local tradition not only in dubai all over the world where they go. Their this characteristics put them in trouble in all over the world.
I dont believe him, court ordered 230 K EUR fine just for a verbal accusation??? Doesn't add up. He probably tried to play tricks on the investor and now is getting what he deserves. bad poeple are usually good at pretending victims
Totally agree lol. That Belgian guy is bullshitting. As always when westernes break UAE law they go to the media and try to paint UAE as a terrible place and hope it will be a get out of jail card

That is not what the article said. He did not hide for ten months. The article stated that the court forced him to be "locked up in a hotel room for ten months." Most likely as a form of house arrest.
Only do business in countries where the rule of law applies equally to both locals and foreign investors.

In Dubai, Whenever someone file complain against you, Police ban you from leaving country immediately . They has state of the art software for achieving that .
After you reach the police station and resolve the issue in the court they uplift the ban.
Here , He never goes to police station, He tried to prepare "file" of his innocence for 10 months.
He must done something wrong therefore He never appear at the police. He takes 10 months to create some fake story.
In business, there are so many times things gets wrong , misunderstanding happens people resolve issue by confronting. He never confront before police.
So I doubt about his story and intention . His Hiding in hotel for months are full of shadiness. Dubai is small country and there are many camera each and every corner of Dubai.
If police want to find him, police will find him in a minutes. there is no doubt about that.

Everyone in Dubai is because of tax. Take it off, everybody would leave.
Living in Sharia law this is the price you pay being UAE resident.
Ok, most of people have residence, but don't live in UAE for same reasons.
For most people UAE works very well as tax residence, but personally me as European I would not live in UAE. You just don't know what to expect from these people. Also, you are pretty closed there, like in an Island and your movement in/out country are strictly monitored.
There are other options being tax free, but most of them are way more expensive than UAE residence.
