I need to consult some issues related to Georgian personal income tax, tax residence, managing offshore business from Georgia, etc.

Can you recommend some International Tax Lawyer/Specialist in Georgia?

Would it be better to contact "The big Four" or some smaller local tax firm?

I'll be following this thread with interest, and I'm hoping @khinkali can perhaps jump in as well, as it's INCREDIBLY tough to find good professional help over here.

My own experiences and those of many of my acquaintances tend to show that if you ask the same question from 5 different tax attorneys / accountants, you can expect to get 5 completely different answers.

Personally, I've resorted to the cumbersome and time-consuming strategy of running the important matters past a large number of non-affiliated professionals AND the Revenue Service AND trying to find and interpret the relevant section of the Georgian Tax Code myself. The latter, mind you, doesn't have an official (legally binding) translation to English, so even that can't be relied on 100%.

I'll be reaching out to @Jonny Cage too, and really hope he's the needle in the haystack we've all been looking for!

Hi @Traveler I'm watching this thread with interest too as I'm a few weeks away from hiring lawyers here. All DIY so far.

I agree it's hard to find the right help. I spent a few $k on advice in my last country and that got me no further than you'd get with an hour of Googling.

@Zyncol thanks a lot for recommending once again. feels like I've got a fun over the forum :))).

@Traveler Your concern about different viewpoint of different accountants is very familiar to me. You have to understand one thing, when you think about Georgia as a place for "offshore business". All this is very new for Georgia. Lawyers, accountants and other service providers are starting to learn now, how to deal with the businesses that does not have real activities in Georgia. The business that we can call offshore. And believe me, approaches are really different towards those two kinds of companies. We spent quite a bit of time, educating accountants and lawyers, so that they can interpret tax code and other laws, different way.
The reason you get different opinions, I think is because of this. People approach your request differently. I'm just sharing our past experience. Your problem might be completely different, though :))
