Lithuanian and Azerbaijani ministers have signed an Agreement on Technical Cooperation between their respective tax administrations, designed to aid the fight against tax evasion.
Signed on May 5, the information has now been released by the Intra-European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA).
The agreement was formalized by Fazil Mammadov, Minister of Taxes, on behalf of Azerbaijan, and Modestas Kaseliauska, Head of the State Tax Inspectorate in Lithuania, who had been on an official visit to the Azerbaijani Ministry.
IOTA has said that Azerbaijan regards the expansion of information exchange with Lithuania as particularly useful, in terms of achieving improvement in both national tax legislation and administration.
In addition, it is hoped that the agreement will play an important role in an intensified crackdown against tax evasion.
The two ministers also discussed future relations between the countries, and, in particular, the further development of legal frameworks for the bolstering of cooperation, and the mutual exchange of information and experience.
